About Me

2016-03-06_0007PINIMAGEHELLO! If you’re anything like me, you came straight to my “about me” page wondering what is her story?  I always want to know people’s stories.  Sharing our stories is what connects us. That’s why so much of my life’s work is about this.

So here’s my story…

“We are here to know, love + serve God.”  I can hear my Grandma Barb’s voice clear in my heart.  She would say this to me many times when I was growing up. And thank goodness for her teachings because they put me on a path that led me to here.  I make a ton of mistakes daily, but each night I reflect on my mission (to know love and serve) and start again the next day.

I believe my gift of being able to capture this world and the people in it serves a higher purpose. I’m self-taught and I break most of the rules, but hey, if the images I create bring joy then who really cares right?

I’m also a high school special education teacher and have been for 15 years. The         classroom is my other calling…but that’s another story.

Some other bits to add:

  • I still consider myself a Yooper even though I’ve officially been below the bridge for over 10 years.  My heart will always be in the U.P. and that’s where most of my favorite people live.
  • My husband and I have been married almost 12 years. He’s pretty cool.
  • Maisie Jane Photography is named after our daughters Layla Jane + Maisie Claire and being their mom is the best ever.
  • I’m annoyingly (or refreshingly) old fashioned- depending on who you’re talking to

Things I LOVE

  • all things creative
  • Avett Brothers
  • cheese, craft beer, avocados + naps in my hammock (or naps in general, anywhere) and coffee.
  • being outdoors, going on adventures, bodies of water, being in the woods, sitting around a fire and having good conversation
  • autumn…every single thing about this season
  • when my kids giggle and laugh super hard because I know they won’t sound like that forever
  • quoting lines from Dumb and Dumber (I have the maturity of a teenage boy)
  • renovating, decorating, and re-decorating our home (over and over and over)

  • Catherine Baurhenn - Hello Maisie Jane,

I’m a friend of the Dabrowski family. Your recent session with the twins is amazing. One photo in particular – the black and white of Kylyn in the tunnel – makes me think she’s looking at her sister Kenley, our smiling angel. I could see photos combined or juxtaposed to create that image of the sisters looking at one another. Your photo has that ethereal feel to it.

Blessings to you in your work!

    • andrea.rutledge@yahoo.com - Thank you so much Catherine!! Your kind words mean the world to me!!ReplyCancel

  • Jessie Seronko - I love everything about you and your web page. Your daughters and your husband are incredibly lucky, as you are to have one another. A beautiful family….and talented with creativity and huge hearts of gold….always putting others first..and living a life with God in the center of all things. By using the gifts given to you, not only in photography, but working with students, you are making the difference in the life of a child…which the ripple effect may never be known to you, but I’m sure it is all positive. You do great things with them, such as native American talking circles, and the teachings, the ropes courses, team building, experiential education….and beyond. Wishing you all the success and happiness in your photography world, which you’re capturing some pretty amazing moments.ReplyCancel

    • andrea.rutledge@yahoo.com - Aw, thanks mom! And thank you for the powerful influence you’ve had in my life. Wouldn’t be where I am without your love + guidance. xoxoReplyCancel
